This One’s for the Birds

In the process of cleaning out our back room, we came across some plastic capsules we used for a client a while back. We posted a message on Craigslist looking for someone to take them off our hands (free of charge, of course) and, to our surprise, were immediately flooded with responses. We had about 50 inquiries regarding the capsules, and this afternoon, Sharon came by to pick them up... and she brought a friend!

Sharon rescues birds, like this 5-year-old cockatiel named Lily, and thinks that the little plastic capsules will make great toys. Good thing plastic lasts forever, because these birds can live to be as old as 80!

Just goes to show, you never know what treasures you'll find laying around a dark, abandoned room (not that we are encouraging anyone to go digging...).

Where Are You? Facebook Gets in the Location Game and Launches ‘Places’

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock for the last week, you’ve probably heard that Facebook launched their much-anticipated location-based feature, aptly named Facebook Places. What sets Facebook Places apart from other location-based check-in applications like Foursquare (or Gowalla or Yelp)? What is it adding (if anything) to our online experience? Read more

Adding Value (And No, Not the Extra Large French Fry Kind)

I keep finding myself in conversations with people about new social media tools and it seems like every one ends the same way...

‘It could work... if it adds value.’

This statement is nothing new or revolutionary in the social media world (or in the real world, for that matter). Recently I’ve used it when talking about features to define Twitter hashtags, GetGlue’s HBO check-in app, and, of course, the never ending explanations on what Foursquare is and whether or not you should give it a shot (you should, by the way).

Whether you are creating the next big social media app or opening a brick and mortar storefront, you have to be providing value to your audience. Simple enough. Read more

And the Winner is…Atomicdust!

And the Winner is...Atomicdust!

So Danielle, our resident social media guru, is up in NYC. Lucky for us, she will be back next week. For those of you who don’t know, Danielle had been handpicked by MTV to compete in their quest to find their first ever TJ (Twitter Jockey). After graciously accepting their invitation, she competed for two weeks in a series of Twitter-based challenges for a chance at a one-year, $100K contract to join them in New York. Like most of the other candidates, she played to win. But unlike many of the others, she did it while holding down her full-time gig, changing the world one member-based service provider at a time. Long story short, the field of contestants was trimmed to five and Danielle’s quest to become MTV’s first TJ very quietly came to an end.

Meanwhile, freelance copywriter and friend of Atomicdust, Amanda Zahnweh was in the throes of a little competition herself. She cracked the short list of finalists in another Twitter-based challenge, this one thrown down by Saatchi + Saatchi LA, billed as "The World's Shortest-Form Writing Contest." Amanda’s entry was one of a handful that were selected by the mega-agency’s Creative Director to be voted on by the public for a chance at a position worth $70K. Finishing third unofficially, she will not be running off to Los Angeles and that’s quite alright with us...officially.

Bittersweet as it may be, the winner in all of this is Atomicdust. We get to hang on to them both (for slightly less than $170K/yr). It added up to a pretty cool experience, not just for the girls, but for all of us. It sort of validated this notion that we’ve got great people capable of doing great things. That, and it gave us something to check out online other than stock photography and Google Analytics.

Atomicdust launches CPMRC Website

Clinical Practice Model Resource Center (CPMRC) works to transform and improve healthcare at the point of care. CPMRC prides themselves on their strong framework and abundance of content and resources for visitors, so we needed to design a website that showcased both, all while being easily updatable on their end.

We organized their content in a way that was easy to navigate, allowing users to quickly find the information they sought. We then housed the content in a design that fit in with another product site we'd created for them (http://www.pointofcare-g.com), while still having its own look and feel. And, by building the site in WordPress, we gave CPMRC the access they needed to continuously update content in their ever-changing industry.

What It Really Means to ‘Make Creative Matter’

Everyone knows we love LOST, but unlike that show, we're going to give you all the answers-

Who is Atomicdust? What do they do?

This video gives you an inside look at Atomicdust, our process, our work and our culture. Still want more? Check out our About Us page for some facts, photos, and a shorter version of this video.

A New Face at Atomicdust

The Atomicdust family is welcoming its newest member- baby Miles!

Miles (and his full head of hair) joined the Spakowski clan on Monday, July 19th. Weighing in at 8 lbs. 7 oz., and stretching 21 inches, both baby and mommy are healthy and happy. Congratulations to Mike and Sarah (and big brother Ian)!

Redesigning the Law

Thompson Coburn, a nationwide law firm, was seeking a consultant to help plan and design their content-rich website. In order for them to stand out among outdated law firm sites, we approached the project with a fresh and open design that more reflected their mission of always pushing forward.

One of the biggest challenges with this project was the amount of content that would be available on the site. With pages and pages of copy, the site structure and usability was as much a key component as the look and feel. The main goal was to keep the abundance of information digestible and easy to find for the visitors. Working closely with their project manager, we laid out a successful website structure and design, and then handed it over for their internal development team to build out.

New Work for Mosby

We’re happy to show our latest work for Mosby’s Nursing Suite, which occupied a lot of our team's time earlier this year. We created marketing materials, including a revamped website, print brochures, videos and trade show components. We’re also steering things in the right direction for the brand on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. We think the work really stands apart in the healthcare category.
