A Facebook Search for the Superheroes of Nursing

About a year ago, our longtime client, Mosby's Nursing Suite, came to us with a new challenge. We had already helped them through a branding program and built marketing materials around their core promise, "Confidence Connected." We followed that up by helping them enter the world of social media with a blog, Facebook and Twitter. And now, they wanted to create a full-scale social movement, to which purchasers and end-users alike could connect.

A Helpful Guide to Facebook Ads

Marketing Managers ask us all the time how Facebook Ads work, how much they cost, and, most importantly, if they are effective. In our experience, Facebook Ads are the best way to drive traffic and increase interactions on a Facebook page.

We put together this helpful guide to answer some of the questions we’re frequently asked about advertising on Facebook

Mike and Danielle on Panels for ‘SXSTL’

Who needs to travel to Austin for SXSW when our very own Creative Director and Online Marketing Manager are speaking right here in St. Louis at ‘SXSTL’?

SXSTL: A Pre-SXSW Extravaganza is being put on by Social Media Club - St. Louis and St. Louis Women in Media on Tuesday, March 6th at the Moonrise Hotel in St. Louis. The event features three panel discussions covering a variety of topics affecting the marketing and design industries.

Mike Spakowski, Owner and Creative Director at Atomicdust, will share design insight on the "Is Creative Web Design in Jeopardy?" panel. With the widespread acceptance of easy to customize CMS platforms, such as Wordpress, are we running the risk of stifling creativity and innovation in the world of web design? Mike and the panel will discuss the current trends in this platform war, as well as web fonts, mobile and tablet design, and HTML5 adoption.

Danielle Hohmeier, our Online Marketing Manager, will be a panelist for the “Why Pinterest is Winning” discussion. Pinterest is the social media site taking the internet by storm, reaching 10 million users faster than any standalone site in history. The panel will share trends and best practices, discuss Pinterest’s appeal on the personal and professional side, and make wild accusations as to where they see the social site going in 2012.

Don’t forget to stick around for the ‘After Party’ for more discussion, networking and, of course, drinks.

Should My Brand Be on Pinterest?

Did you know there’s a new social media site out there driving more referral traffic than Google+, YouTube and Linkedin combined?

It’s Pinterest.

Pinterest is an online community that allows users to save, or ‘pin’, images from around the web onto their own personal, virtual bulletin boards. There are popular categories - home decor, food, crafts, fashion - but users can create as many boards as they want, on any topic they desire. The idea is to express your personality and share the things that you love with your followers.

Sure, Pinterest is popular. In fact, it reached the 10 million monthly visitor mark faster than any other standalone site in history. But can Pinterest be used for marketing?

What businesses need to know about Facebook Timeline for Pages

This morning, Facebook debuted its new layout for Pages, taking a cue from the recent changes to user profiles. We all knew it was coming... but now we can finally see how it will affect the design, our custom apps and the kind of content we share.

The official switch will come on March 30th. Until then, if you are a page admin, you can jump over to a private preview to see what your page will look like in the new layout, and, if you wish, can go ahead and publish it for the world to see.

Here’s what you need to know about Facebook Timeline for Pages...

Atomicdust wins ‘Best Designed Website’ at RFT’s Web Awards

Last night, we celebrated alongside some of the best of the web at the Riverfront Times 2012 St. Louis Web Awards - and we even took home a trophy of our own for Best Designed Website.

Here’s what the judges had to say:

“This site is seriously gorgeous with its sleek black-and-white layout and subtle flair. Atomicdust is also one of the few creative agencies that effectively harnesses the personalities of its employees and displays that energy online without being cheesy. For examples of that, just check out its frequently updated blog.”

Kind words, indeed. It may be cliché to say, but it truly was an honor just to be nominated, considering they chose from over 1,000 nominations from more than 400 readers.

And kudos to Atomicdust designer and photographer, Jason Stoff, as well. His personal site, Encor.es, won for Best Photostream/Flickr.

Check out RFT’s site for more on the winners and pictures from last night. And special thanks to Dan O’Saben for letting us use one of his images from the event for this blog post!

Think You Know Facebook Ads?

I use Facebook Ads. I love Facebook Ads. I even recommend Facebook Ads to others. But I do stumble across a lot of misconceptions about them. Whenever I see an article about advertising on Facebook, the comments that follow are usually something along the lines of, ‘If they start showing me ads, that’s it! I’m quitting!’ Why the hostility? Are Facebook Ads really that disruptive? Learn more about Facebook Ads, and how they know so much about you
