Cool Designer Tool: The Cosmonaut Stylus from Studio Neat

I'm an iPad junkie (I know, it's a huge shock to you all). Moreover, I often use it to take notes, access my calendar, sketch out ideas, and generally hash out ideas while I'm at work. It's become my digital sketchbook, a device with unlimited potential for assisting me in fleshing out ideas.

For the past few weeks, I've been using Studio Neat's Cosmonaut stylus instead of my old Wal-Mart brand capacitive stylus. It's been a great experience, though not without quirks.

Atomicdust Faces Off Against Hunger

We don’t typically work late into the night. It’s not the most productive use of time. The mind tends to wander. And sometimes silliness occurs.

One late night, while waiting for a designer (Katie) to hurry up and finish working on something, we found ourselves huddled around her desk, right next to the photocopier.

Jesse scanned his face, rolled it as the light passed, creating this weirdly creepy, artsy print, which (of course) we instantly had to post on Facebook.

So then we all took turns, laughing and being creeped out by the results, and sharing (and grossing people out) on Facebook.

We wanted to share the experience, but how do you lure people into your office to scan their faces on a copier? Donate to a charity each time they do!

Atomicdust presents ‘Face Off Against Hunger’.

For every person that comes by our office, scans their face on the copier, and lets us post it on Facebook, we’ll donate $5 to St. Louis Food Outreach. Up to $5,000.

And in a couple months, we’ll buy some beer and host a ‘gallery show’ of all the faces we scanned in our office.

So stop by, have fun and help a great St. Louis charity!

And here's a link to the photos on Facebook.

We’re a Finalist for the RFT Web Awards

The Riverfront Times published it's list of finalists for the 2012 St. Louis Web Awards, and Atomicdust made the cut. The winners will be announced on January 24th, during a special event at the Old Rock House.

We were nominated for two categories this year, Best Use of Facebook to Promote a Business/Org and Best Designed Website. We would also like to give Jason Stoff, designer and photographer at Atomicdust, kudos for having his personal site, Encor.es, make the list as a finalist for the Best Photostream/Flickr category.

To see the complete list of finalists, including some of our friends from Midtown Alley visit RFT's site.

Update: We won Best Designed Website

See Danielle's post (Atomicdust wins ‘Best Designed Website’ at RFT’s Web Awards) for details.

We are flattered that the St. Louis Egotist decided to feature us in their Agency Insider series. The St. Louis Egotist seves up news on design, advertising and other creative resources to the Missouri advertising community with entertaining irreverence.

Midtown Alley Creative Firms Featured in The Post-Dispatch

We are officially settled into our new office at 3021 Locust. We've had an open house, a party for our clients and participated in the AdSaint Agency Crawl.  Everyone at Atomicdust appriciates the sense of community and comradery Midtown Alley offers for creative agencies and other businesses in the corridor between Grand and Jefferson.

And it seems the Post-Dispatch realized the neighborhood had something special going on as well. Midtown Alley made the front page of the business section and was praised as becoming, "to marketing in St. Louis what Tin Pan Alley was to songwriting in New York a hundred years ago."
