Online Ad Spending Outpaces Print, But Does it Matter?

Online advertising spending will surpass print in the United States for the first time in 2012, according to a forecast by eMarketer. As stated in this report, spending is set to increase twenty-three percent to $39.5 billion.

While I agree with David Hallerman, eMarketer's principal analyst, who says, “Advertisers' comfort level with integrated marketing is greater than ever,” I hope this surge doesn’t lead to more clutter and thus diluted messaging.

We’re a Finalist for the RFT Web Awards

The Riverfront Times published it's list of finalists for the 2012 St. Louis Web Awards, and Atomicdust made the cut. The winners will be announced on January 24th, during a special event at the Old Rock House.

We were nominated for two categories this year, Best Use of Facebook to Promote a Business/Org and Best Designed Website. We would also like to give Jason Stoff, designer and photographer at Atomicdust, kudos for having his personal site, Encor.es, make the list as a finalist for the Best Photostream/Flickr category.

Timeline: A Storybook of Your Life

Last night, I was invited to speak at the Macklind Business District’s annual holiday party at the SOHA Art Gallery. The Macklind Business District is made up of independently-owned restaurants, retail shops and service providers located in the Southampton neighborhood in south St. Louis City.

New Faces, New Places for Atomicdust

There’s a whole lot of moving going on at Atomicdust, and we’re not just talking about our shiny new location on Locust Street. We’ve also added three new faces: one to make things move, one to keep things moving, and one to move social conversations along.

Jeremy Cox will focus on bringing ideas to video, using his extensive experience in graphics, animation and editing. Jeremy studied Commercial Graphic Design and Marketing at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. When he’s not creating motion, Jeremy enjoys getting beat up by 10-year-old kids (in online gaming) and spending quality time with his Rottweiler, Riddick.

Of course, we’ve got to keep growing to keep our big new space buzzing, so we brought on Kevin Burford to handle new business development. Kevin holds an undergraduate degree in Business from the University of North Texas and a Masters of Arts from Fontbonne University, which is the perfect mix we need to reach out to new clients. Kevin is a family-oriented Texas transplant, but we won’t hold the Texas part against him – we’re happy to have him on board.

Everyone’s talking about social media – and Tara Nesbitt is going to help us keep that conversation going. She’ll be helping with social media strategy and management, SEO and paid search advertising campaigns. Tara has a sales background and is currently studying Business Administration at Washington University - St. Louis. Her favorite thing about Atomicdust’s new location? Afternoon milkshakes from the Fountain on Locust.

Show Me The Blog 2012: Tweetable Takeaways

Last Saturday, I got the chance to speak on behalf of St. Louis Women in Media at the 2nd Annual Show Me the Blog Conference. The conference was created by local blogger Danyelle Little (aka The Cubicle Chick) for social media and blogging enthusiasts in the Midwest to network and to share resources and best practices.

What Do Facebook’s Changes Mean for My Business?

By now, you’ve probably seen or at least heard of the new Facebook Timeline and the other changes coming that were announced last week at their annual f8 Developers Conference. Heck, you may even have already signed up for the new profile layout.

We’ve all seen what happens when Facebook makes changes. People take to their statuses, blogs and Twitter feeds freaking out, complaining about the changes and vowing to quit. 

This? This is my Facebook freak-out post. 

No, I’m not going to go on a rant about how I hate the new ticker or that Facebook is encouraging stalking or that they are violating my privacy. In fact, I don’t really mind the new features. Atomicdust wins 23 Targeted Advertising and Marketing (TAM) Awards

Looks like we’ve set a new record for ourselves! Last night, we won 23 awards at the annual Business Marketing Association show, including six Best-in-Class and the People’s Choice award.

From the Starlight Room atop the Chase Park Plaza, the future of marketing and advertising in St. Louis looks bright – as evidenced by the record number of entries in the 2011 Targeted Advertising and Marketing (TAM) Awards. They received more than 250 entries for 32 categories, celebrating advertising in all forms - printed pieces, websites, three-dimensional displays and more.

The 23 awards we took home included honors for websites, print campaigns, social media, logo design, trade show graphics and email campaigns. We were also recognized with the People’s Choice Award, for a multifaceted superhero-themed campaign created for Mosby’s Nursing Suite, and earned a sweep of the blog category.

The annual awards show is the only one dedicated exclusively to honoring business-to-business marketing excellence. It is sponsored by the St. Louis chapter of the Business Marketing Association.

A big congratulations are in order for the whole Atomicdust team. Thank you to all the designers, developers, copywriters and account managers that work hard to produce award-winning work from year to year!
