Halski Studio and Atomicdust Create Unique Consumer Electronics Brand Website for Yurbuds

In our city of St. Louis there are a lot of great creative firms. Over our 10 years in business, we’ve met a lot of creative people, and, occasionally we’ll partner with them on projects.

Halski Studio is a great St. Louis firm that does advertising, branding and photography. It’s run by design power couple Mark and Jen Halski. We ran into them for the first time in years, and brought up the idea of collaborating on a project together. We didn’t have anything particular in mind, but if the right opportunity came up, maybe we could find a way to make it happen.

Enter Yurbuds. Yurbuds is a consumer electronics company located in St. Louis whose products are developed by athletes, for athletes. Their flagship product is the IronMan Series earphones that are guaranteed not to fall out. Wearing them is a really unique experience for athletes, and Yurbuds wanted an equally unique web experience for their national advertising rollout.

Working with the branding developed by Halski Studio, we brought our own unique approach and style when it came to designing the website.

We created an experience that would inspire athletes and change the way they typically engaged with a brand online. And we did it all on a single page. Breaking the page into sections, we built each area to ‘parallax scroll’, meaning the objects move at different rates as the user scrolls down the page. It’s a great way to add motion to a website without the use of Flash. The website uses an existing shopping cart Yurbuds had in place to handle ecommerce. There’s an optimized mobile experience to come.

It’s always interesting collaborating with other creative firms on projects, especially on just one aspect of an overall brand, like its website. It’s a fragile, temporary, transfer of design ownership. And a balance of infusing your own design style, while respecting and not undoing the thinking and work that has been done up to that point. Our collaboration with Halski Studio was an example of how it should be done.

We want the Atomicdust blog to be a place where people can come and share their thoughts on marketing, design and how adorable they think our babies are, and leaving a comment allows you to do just that.

We will moderate the comments, and reserve the right not to post anything we deem inappropriate. That being said, we have created some guidelines to help ensure your post gets published:

Do: Be vocal
Share what you know. Ask about what you don’t.

Do: Spread the love
Feel free to share the posts on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn or wherever you play on the Internet. But if you could give us some credit, that would be nice. We work hard to write these posts... and want our fifteen minutes of fame.

Do: Watch your language
We’re all adults here (probably), but please, avoid using language that is obscene, vulgar, or lewd. (Lewd? That word just sounds gross.)

Don’t: Get all elementary on us
Spelling is hard sometimes. Please forgive people for their typos and spelling errors.

Do: Be like Honest Abe
No lies, please.

Don’t: Be like Kanye
TURN OFF YOUR CAPS. That is just annoying. (But not when Kanye does it. Then it is genius.)

Don’t: Be a hater
While we welcome criticism and open discussion, remember to be respectful. Make sure your comment is constructive and that it doesn’t offend, threaten or attack.

Don’t: Spam us
I’m sure that magic pill really works, but Atomicdust blog readers aren’t interested...

It was an absolute pleasure working with all at Atomicdust on this project. You over-delivered with a beautifully engaging site on an extremely demanding timeline and the response Yurbuds has already received from consumers and retailers alike has been incredible. Great work. Can’t wait to do it again.

Fantastic job on the site. Love the beautiful photography work. However, the clean and functional layout with nice multi-layer scrolling is fresh and on top of today’s Web Design trends. A good reflection of what the product has to offer. Congrats on the nice work.
