In Case You Missed Him: Introducing Designer Tyler Wait

If you’ve been keeping up with our blog, Tyler Wait’s name should sound familiar – he first came to Atomicdust as an intern last summer. Now, Tyler is joining our team of designers full time with a freshly printed diploma from the University of Missouri – St. Louis, for his BFA in graphic design.

While Tyler hasn’t changed much since starting here, we’ve definitely rubbed off on him. Though soft-spoken, he works in his sarcasm when it’s least expected. Beyond that, his love of modern, minimalist design continues to grow – and he’s developed a keen eye for architecture and furniture design. In addition to loving the Eames’ chairs around the office, Tyler now hopes to one day build a Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired home.

From a design perspective, Tyler’s been working on everything from corporate healthcare to Business Prom. No matter the project, he likes to keep everything as clear and simple as possible – while still pushing to make every piece cool. When it comes to his idea of cool, Tyler recently added a few more design heroes to his list of inspiration for his work, including Massimo Vignelli, Dieter Rams and Paul Rand.

Outside of work, Tyler is still passionate about music, which got him into design in the first place. After joining a band his freshman year in high school, he designed the logo, posters and obligatory MySpace background that designated every great mid-2000s local band. Since then, he’s stayed involved in the St. Louis music scene, designing for his own bands and others around town.

Tyler still goes to a countless concerts, writes his own music and spends time experimenting with new guitars, amps and pedals. Even though he’s an avid vinyl record collector with good taste, he – for some unknown reason – sometimes blares 90s pop and metal at work. But we’re excited to have him as an official part of our office, even though he does love *NSYNC.

Next time you’re at our office, be sure to say hello.
