Looking Forward to Design Week 2014

Looking Forward to Design Week 2014

Every year, we look forward to St. Louis Design Week. It’s a way for the community to come together and celebrate the work coming out of the city – be it graphic design, architecture, photography, jewelry design and more. Plus, as is customary for St. Louis, most of the events are free and include beer.

And this year, we have even more of a reason to look forward to the week – Mike Spakowski, our Partner/Creative Directive took on the task of chairing St. Louis Design Week. Atomicdust employees – especially event planner extraordinaire, Tara Nesbitt – have spent countless hours and sleepless nights helping out.

This year, more than any other, Design Week has been on our minds for months.

Don’t miss our Open House on Monday (2pm- 3pm) when we’ll open our doors to fellow creative professionals. That evening, join us at the Regional Arts Commission for The Dot Show. Local artists designed pieces inspired by their favorite St. Louis landmarks and neighborhoods to be auctioned off. Make sure you check out Atomicdust designer Adam Koon’s piece inspired by Forest Park!

And finish off the work week with our favorite monthly block party – Live in the Alley, sponsored by TOKY. In addition to the usual live music and tasty food from Small Batch, our neighbors at Scorch Agency will be hosting a craft beer tasting and (because we love a little friendly competition in Midtown) a branding contest. Make sure you stop by and cast your vote for the Atomicdust Honey Nut Saison by tweeting with #HoneyDust #MeganFoundation.

Here are a few more events Atomicdust employees are looking forward to –

Everytime I go to PechaKucha, I’m reminded that our city is packed with smart, strange, outrageously creative people. Prepare to leave at the end of the night with at least three big ideas and a few new friends. – Jazzy Loyal

I always look forward to PechaKucha. It’s inspiring to see other people excited about their contribution to the world. It reminds me that creativity means more the little design things I stress over.  – Beth Porter

The Adobe Workshops (on Tuesday and Thursday). They are products I use everyday and am looking forward to the chance to learn from someone who works with the products at Adobe. Who wouldn’t want that insider perspective?– Katie Werges

I saw Aaron Draplin speak at Weapons of Mass Creation Fest in 2011 and I look forward to hearing him speak in St. Louis. I’m an avid Field Notes collector and everyday I get tips on how to brush from his Cuspid Cleaner. Hopefully our designers will impress him more than the our Sedalia brethren. – Annie McCance

I’m really excited for the Fashion Week Kick-Off and Blogger Awards because it’s a chance for everyone to check out the new Public Media Commons – an awesome space. I’m really glad we could partner with Fashion Week this year for Design Week! – Tara Nesbitt

On Thursday, I’ll be at the Bruton Stroube Beer Garden. You really can’t go wrong with free beer from a creative agency, and this one includes an outdoor patio and gif photobooth. – Christen Ringhausen

I’m looking forward to Eggs in Space. I’m not participating in building a capsule, but excited to see what they came up with and watch an old-fashioned egg drop! Plus, Urban Chestnut. – Danielle Hohmeier

This year, there are more than 40 events during Design Week, so there is something for everyone.  Make sure you check out the St. Louis Design Week website for a full list of events.
