With an entirely new brand platform and name, Revel Kitchen transformed from an athletes-only feel to the life of the party, calling all people to celebrate real food.
Inspired by his own performance-focused culinary creations, St. Louis Cardinals nutritionist Simon Lusky originally opened Athlete Eats to serve professional-worthy meals at his small Cherokee Street café. But with big plans for expansion in the works, “Athlete Eats” didn’t give off the inclusive feel necessary to support all of the growth.
The original name was technically accurate – the low carb, protein-based restaurant menu and prepared meal options are meant to provide athletes with long-lasting energy. But the brand is about more than athletes; it’s about calling all people to “Celebrate Real Food” that makes them feel good. It was the recipe for a new brand image, and we named it Revel Kitchen.
To radiate the celebratory feel that Revel Kitchen is all about, we decided to create vibrant designs that are energetic and joyful – just like the restaurant’s food leaves you feeling. Bright, bold colors with abstract confetti lines give off a feel-good vibe, while intermixed photos of real food highlight Revel Kitchen’s wholesome roots.
That design strategy premiered on our first project: the Revel Kitchen food truck, which debuted at the first Sauce Magazine Food Truck Friday of 2015. Bursts of color and real food spliced in half created eye-catching movement that helped the truck’s wrap stand out at that first event and every day after.
To let people know about the name change, we created emails to customers, press releases, social media announcements and more. As “Revel Kitchen” gained momentum, we continued to build on the brand and its celebratory feel with fresh menus, signage and a whole new website.
Between two restaurant locations, a food truck and the meal plan ordering system, the website asks a lot of customers – and we were determined to simplify it. It was a challenge from both design and technical standpoints, building customized templates and layouts to take visitors through each step. By carrying over the bold branding with a careful focus on clarity, we created a website that not only guides visitors – it excites them.
The branding and website design for Revel Kitchen has been honored with Graphic Design USA American Web Design Awards and Health + Wellness Design Awards, and was featured in Feast Magazine‘s 2016 Tastemaker’s issue (“How Restaurants Are Using Digital Branding to Up Their Game”).
