Fitting In: A Note from Atomicdust’s Senior Copywriter

Fitting In: A Note from Atomicdust’s Senior Copywriter

Hello. My name is Rich Heend (rhymes with fiend). I’m one of the newest employees here at Atomicdust, and I’ve been asked to introduce myself.

During my career, I’ve written ads, brochures and videos about healthcare, alfalfa, technology, employee safety and a whole host of other topics. But the hardest things I’ve ever written cover one topic: me.

So where to start? Let’s see. I’m a bit of a Mac nerd and the proud father of an 11-year-old Mac nerd. Like many here, I’m still mourning the end of Lost. And, like I said, I’m a writer.

You might think that being a writer in a shop best known for its technical and design work would be uncomfortable. But when it comes right down to it, nothing could be further from the truth.

That’s right. Even though I’m relatively new, walking in here each morning is like slipping on a pair of old shoes. There are a couple of good reasons for that.

First up, of course, is the smell. Old shoes, get it?

I’m kidding, of course.

The real story? It’s great working with people I already know and admire. Truth be told, I’ve known a couple of the folks here for a long time, having worked with them in a previous life at another agency. (An agency which, ironically enough, actually hired Atomicdust to build their website.)

But that’s not the only reason I’m glad to be a part of this team. Here’s the real story.

Everyone at Atomicdust is committed to the message. The story. The connection. The people here “get it” and if they don’t get it, they keep working until they do. They relentlessly boil down the essence of every brand, and work hard to ensure that essence is conveyed in both words and pictures.

It’s an approach I’ve always tried to take with my own projects. I love to make the complex simple and approachable. I’ve written B2B and technical copy for most of my career, and I’ve never seen a group so committed to clarity and simplicity. It’s refreshing and fun in an industry that, all too often, is neither of those things.

Plain and simple, this is the smartest, most passionate bunch of people I’ve ever known. That’s not a knock on any of my former co-workers. Far from it. I’ve done some great work with some truly intelligent people over the years.

Suffice it to say I’m thrilled to be working with old friends (and new friends) here at Atomicdust, and I look forward to sharing my thoughts with you from time to time on this blog.

Thanks for reading. And if you have any questions for the new Atomicdust writer, please don’t hesitate to speak up.
