Atomicdust Builds a Website for STL DesignWeek 2013

Last year, we were honored to work on the STL DesignWeek website – and this year’s no different. We love design and we love St. Louis, so when the two come together, we’re happy to be involved. With new branding, a new poster and a different lineup of events, we were excited to get to work on the new site.

After the STL DesignWeek organizers rebranded and provided designs for the event, we started adapting the new identity for the web. While developing the site, we worked hard to stay as true to the original design as possible. It takes a certain balance of form and function to build a great website – especially when it’s for our friends in the design community. As we pulled from the poster for the form, we added elements to help make the site work as a hub for all the events.

STL Design Week Website

At its core, the STL DesignWeek website is focused on the week’s events, so we gave each one enough space to answer as many of the who, what, where, when, why and how questions as possible. Straightforward answers to these questions helps visitors choose where they’re headed for STL DesignWeek events. As events begin, we wanted a way to encourage conversation around DesignWeek on social media.

To bridge the gap between real-life events and social media, a custom Twitter app pulls in tweets from the @STLDesignWeek account and Instagram integration with the #STLDW hashtag shares real photos of real events. For social links, we animated one of the figures from the poster to link to the STL DesignWeek Facebook and Twitter accounts. All said, information about the events, tying to social media and a touch of reality will help keep the focus on this week’s events.

Yesterday marked the start of STL DesignWeek 2013 and we hope to see you at as many events as possible. For more information on this week’s events – and to see all of these development pieces in action – visit the site.

Download the STL Design Week app from the App Store, here (designed by our friends and Midtown Alley neighbors, TOKY), and most importantly, remember to attend the events – we’ll be there.
