STL Creatives – Kick-Off Party Recap
Do you know what’s really great about the St. Louis creative scene? It’s huge!
Atomicdust has been putting on events and community gatherings for years, and with every one I’m constantly meeting new people, hearing about different disciplines in design and learning different perspectives.
A few years ago I met Justin Heuss – a man with the loudest, heartiest laugh you’ve ever heard – at a St. Louis Design Week event we were hosting, and we’ve been friends ever since.
Are you familiar with Slack? Love it or hate it, it’s going to be around for a while. We use the software here at Atomicdust for internal communications, but people are forming public groups that let people with similar interests stay connected.
So when Justin called me and asked if we could team up for an event to promote his new Slack channel focused on connecting the St. Louis creative community, all the planets aligned.
Last week we hosted a party at our office that welcomed St. Louis creative professionals from all kinds of backgrounds, disciplines and experience levels. We mingled, shed any introvert-ness and had a beer or two.
Photos of the event can be found on our Facebook page.
The purpose? I guess you could say it was networking, but for me it went a little further than that. I got to meet more than 100 creative people that I wouldn’t have had a chance to otherwise. I got to see an entirely new “‘creative’ scene” in the city rising up. It was pretty inspiring.
Thanks to Tek Digital, Justin’s employer, for sponsoring the event, and helping make events like this happen around the city.
If you’re interested in joining the STL Creatives Slack channel, email Justin here.
And if you’re interested in more St. Louis Creative Community events, we host a morning lecture series on design and creativity called Bright&Early. They happen on the first Friday of every month. If you want a monthly reminder, just let me know.
Here’s to making it happen. Have a great day.
